The company offers a wide variety of consumer products as well as commercial grade equipment. I know you are looking for a Boos Kitchen Island though, so we will go over the different options you have available to you.

They first they offer is a Maple Kindred Block that has a Warm Cherry Stain Base. This product has a three in solid rock maple top. Any of you who know what this is, you will know that it’s pretty much indestructible. It has end grain construction, a Veronique finish, cherry stain base, legs that are adjustable, and it stands 36’ in height. This unit weighs 92 pounds and will probably take 2 people to move it. You should expect to pay around 700 for it.

The second is called a maple kindred island with warm cherry stain base. The product has a 1.5 in thick top that is rock hard maple. Just because its thinner doesn’t mean that it’s not sturdy. It has edge grain construction, and oil finish that is beautiful, a warm cherry stain that is on the base, legs that are adjustable, a 36’ overall height to it, optional slatted lower shelf in warm cherry stain, you can have to too two shelves, and a few other optional pieces that you can choose from. Depending on the different options that you choose you will want to know that the weight and price can range quite a bit with this model. As I was saying you will have to look at whatever option you want with this piece then go price it. They range from 600 to 1300. There are just too many different options to list and you wouldn’t want to read them all

Another piece that they offer is the Maple kindred island with drop leaf and warm cherry stain base.

We are starting to notice a commonality here with the cherry stain base. It adds quite a nice touch to the unit and gives the John Boos Company a trademark that it loves to use. This unit is also 1.5 inches thick with a solid hard rock maple top. It has edge grain construction, an oil finish, it has a 8’ drop leaf on side opposite with a utensil drawer that increases available work surface, and of course you warm cherry stain base, a dovetailed utensil drawer, legs that are adjustable, a 36 inch overall height, and optional warm cherry stained lowers shelves that can add 2 nice places to have extra storage.

These are just a few of the many different options that are available through this wonderful company. I urge you to do a lot of shopping before you purchase one of these units for your kitchen. Make sure it is the right on for you.

John Boos’ company is one of the oldest in America, especially in his industry. He started it in a small town in Illinois and it has been there since early 1887. No one would have thought that he would have made it this far. He named it for one of his sons so that he could run the company when he got older. John did most of his crafting in a blacksmith shop that was on West Jefferson Street. He got his wood for his cutting blocks locally in Illinois that were made out of sycamore lumber. It was made and produced in a sawmill and then was shipped over to his place to finish the final process. Where it was processed at stayed in operation as a blacksmith shop until late 1892 when it moved to another side of town, where it still is today.

The sycamore tree that was used in making his blocks was used by the blacksmith. He would put the tree on 3 legs to make the horseshoes straight. The block of wood then got the shock of the hammer that was used by the blacksmith. The wood was very prone to withstanding such force. The butcher realized that he could use of these contraptions in his butcher shop. Mr. John decided to make him one and he still has his company today. He first started making the blocks for just meat markets back then that were popular, especially in the big cities. It was the only place that the public went to buy meat back then. The grocery stores didn’t carry much meat if any at all back then, so they had no choice but to go.

The Boos Company stayed on the path of making butcher blocks for the commercial use mainly until around World War 2. During this world war, the company noticed that the army needed tables and work tables for the soldiers. So they started designing and manufacturing these tables for the army and them during the World War. This was a big new source of revenue for the company. The Army was buying more than the company could supply. Once they realized that the company could build just more than butcher blocks, it was like a light bulb going off. So they started planning some other ideas that could make them more money.

The company knew that it had the resources to open up and do more. So it started planning to expand slowly by offering a dry kiln. It increased its office and warehouse space to help with the increased demand that was needed. The company was then set to move into the 20th century full steam ahead.

John Boos has been making Boos Kitchen Islands for a long time. He has one of the most sought after kitchen islands ever made. He has been making kitchen islands out of hard maple out of 1887. His stuff is built to last as Jim Collins would say. They have been doing certain things for a certain way for a long time. John Boos has companies that do work for him that have to abide by his standards. One of their products that are made is the butcher blocks that are sent to institutions and restaurants. There the people will use them for a long time. Most times people keep his products for up to 40 years. In the restaurants they will get worn out sometimes though because of all the use. He has even made stuff for the White House Kitchen. That’s impressive to have your name in the white house kitchen, I think so anyways. He also has made stainless steel for the restaurant designs and has different ideas that he applies to residential use.

Most of his tables are very expensive. We tell you how much you should expect to pay in a later article. If you have ever used or seen on of John Boos Kitchen Islands, then you know why they are priced the way they are. His material and the craftsmanship are amazing. He has hands down on of the best kitchen islands out there.

You may have some assembly that will be needed with some of his products, but this is normal as it keeps shipping costs down. You can hire people that will come in and put together the items for you. Most local companies will offer this service, like a handyman service for example. If you can’t find anyone, then just get on Google and type in what you want. Just like always, once you tell it what you want, you will find it. You might have to look, but that’s ok. John Boos has been in the news quite a bit and received a lot of publicity on his products. If you check out his website you can find a lot of stuff on there.

If you like to cook a lot then you will want to consider putting in the time to research his company and really understand what they have to offer. The Boos Kitchen Islands are just one of the many products that you may want to think about purchasing. I have seen and personally used some of his stuff in restaurants when I worked in them. The stainless steel tables are amazing. They will defiantly withstand the test of time and lots of people working on them. They are a wonderful product.
